How to Work with the NSF
The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs are pleased to invite you to participate in an interactive program with National Science Foundation staff here on campus.
How to Work with the NSF
May 17, 2007
Leung Gallery in Faunce House
8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Light breakfast and full lunch will be provided.
"How to Work with the NSF" should provide Brown faculty and postdoctoral fellows with a better understanding of the best ways to traverse NSF funding opportunities. Rather than a grants writing workshop, this session will focus on the need for substantive individual interactions with NSF staff in developing the most competitive applications. We also hope this event will enable faculty to become better connected with the NSF in order to increase their awareness of current and pending funding opportunities.
NSF Program staff will address all interested faculty in the Leung Gallery in Faunce House. These NSF representatives include:
Margaret E. M. Tolbert, Ph.D., Senior Advisor, Office of Integrative Activities (OIA), and Brown class of 1974.
OIA supports the Office of the NSF Director in carrying out a number of cross-organizational activities, including the NSF's Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI). Dr. Tolbert manages the multi-million-dollar Science and Technology Centers Program.
Sara Twombly, Ph.D., Staff Director, Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) in the Biology Directorate.
DEB supports fundamental research on populations, species, communities, and ecosystems.
These NSF program officers are on the front lines of the grant process and will be able to provide invaluable insights into how best to work with NSF staff to make an application as competitive as possible. They will also be able to discuss activities at the NSF such as new initiatives that may be on the horizon. Their comments will cover the full NSF and will not be limited to their program areas.
If you are interested in attending this event please RSVP to Jeffry Cabral at jeffry_cabral@brown.edu by Friday, May 4. Should you have any questions about this program please contact Tim Leshan in the Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs at tim_leshan@brown.edu or 863-2552. We look forward to seeing you on May 17.
