Brown Books: Why Columbus Sailed

Professor Nicolás Wey Gomez gives a new spin on an old story in "The Tropics of Empire: Why Columbus Sailed South to the Indies."

This groundbreaking work on Columbus reorients the reader to see a once-familiar story in exciting new ways.

Wey Gómez, who studies the early modern Hispanic world in the Hispanic Studies Department, will speak October 7 at an event to celebrate the book's publication in the John Carter Brown Library. The event is supported by the José Amor y Vázquez Fund.
