I study the process of practitioner - patient communication, with particular focus on the negotiation of health behavior change regarding chronic diseases such as HIV, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, and addictive disorders. The goal of this research is to develop training methods which will increase the effectiveness of health care practitioner's conversations with patients regarding treatment adherence and positive lifestyle change.

Trained as a clinical health psychologist, Dr. Rose is actively engaged in research and training in motivational interviewing and health behavior change counseling. He has maintained a clinical practice in child and adolescent psychology in greater Boston since 1982. For fun, Dr. Rose is a national instructor for the Porsche Club of America, training individuals in high performance and competitive auto sports.
